ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s most successful para-athlete, Haider Ali on Tuesday, got the much-needed recognition for his achievements in the realm of para-sports as he was awarded a cash prize of PKR five million by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

According to the details, the cash award was granted under the PSB’s newly-approved policy, which was implemented during a recent board meeting.

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah Khan awarded the cheque for the cash prize to Haider and also commended Haider’s dedication and perseverance, stating that his achievement has made the entire nation proud.

He further emphasized that the government remains committed to promoting sports and encouraging athletes through such initiatives.

PSB officials also lauded Haider’s accomplishment, describing the cash prize as a recognition of his exceptional performance and contributions to the country.

The PSB also announced that other athletes, who excel at national and international levels will also be rewarded for their achievements, as per the newly-implemented policy.

Previously in November, Pakistan’s most successful para-athlete, Haider, had expressed his disappointment over the lack of recognition and support for his achievements in the realm of para-sports.

In an exclusive interview with Geo News, Ali emphasized that while the Paralympics are regarded with equal importance to the Olympics worldwide, however, he has not received the acknowledgment he rightfully deserves.

“I have won four medals for Pakistan in the Paralympics, but I haven’t received the recognition that I should have,” Haider Ali stated.

He had also expressed disappointment over the disparity in rewards between him and fellow athlete Arshad Nadeem, who has received accolades beyond policy stipulations.

“Arshad received more than the policy, and I didn’t even get what was due according to sports policy. If I receive even a third of what Arshad was given, I would be happy.”
